Mr. Mitchell "Shakey" Baker

Mr. Mitchell Nathaniel "Shakey" Baker, age 67, of Toccoa, passed away Thursday, January 4, 2018 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

Born June 12, 1950 in Banks County. He was the son of the late James D. and Icie Rogers Baker of Homer.

Mr. Baker was a great man of faith. He was saved many years ago and attended Fresh Fire Worship Center in Commerce, GA, where his son-in-law, Steve Powers pastors. He spent his life making others smile. He had a special way of reaching people and letting them know about the Love of God. Many have said that he had a big part of saving their lives by the encouragement he always shared. He loved old Chevy cars, blue grass music, and playing with his great-grandchild, Jensen in the chicken lot. He was an employee of Stephens County Road Department and spent many years as a dump truck driver. He was also known as the Sheriff of Fowlertown Road.

Surviving family members include his wife of 46 years, Wanda Baker of Toccoa; daughters and son-in-law, Michelle and Steve Powers of Commerce and Miriam Baker of Toccoa and future son-in-law, Jeremie Fluharty; grandchildren, Lindsey and Shawn Borton and Haley Powers of Commerce; great-grandchildren, Jensen Dean Powers and Greysen Borton of Commerce; brother, Vaughn Baker of Toccoa; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Randolf "Hub" Baker and Raymond Baker.

Funeral services will be held at two o'clock, Sunday January 7, 2018 from the Chapel of Whitlock Mortuary with the Bishop Steve Powers and Mrs. Joyce Greene officiating.
Burial will follow at Roselane Cemetery.

The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers; Brian Fuller, Rex Baker, Hamilton Pitts, Stacy Justice, Tim Ledford, and Kenny Baker. Mackie Etris will serve as honorary pallbearer.

The family will receive friends at the mortuary from 4pm – 8pm Saturday.

The family respectfully asks that flowers be omitted and that donations be made to Whitlock Mortuary.

Whitlock Mortuary is in charge of the arrangements.
