Mr. Melvin Linwood Shearin

Mr. Melvin Linwood Shearin, age 86, of Eastanollee, passed away Thursday, May 2, 2019 at his home.

He was a loving husband, father, son, brother, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Melvin was born in Franklin County, North Carolina on May 6, 1932 to the late Glenwood L. and Bertha Lancastor Shearin. He joined the Army on September 16, 1949 and served our great nation fighting in the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged on October 7, 1952. Melvin was a Master Electrician. He worked at WABCO and later started his own electrical contracting company, then opened Shearin Electric and Plumbing Supply until he retired in 1994.

Melvin is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Opal Brady Shearin and their three children; daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Doug Nicholson of Gainesville, son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Jena Shearin of Waleska, and daughter and son-in-law, Andrea and David Benfield; grandchildren, Tyler and Blythe Nicholson, Ryan Nicholson, Erin and Will Webb, Ashley and Joel Baxter, Drew Benfield, and Amy Benfield; great-grandchildren, Ava Nicholson and Turner Webb; brothers Orris (Jan) Shearin, and John (Sherry) Shearin; sister, Diane Chase; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Robert, Kemp, and Ovid Shearin; sisters, Ruby, Joyce, Linda, and Janice.

The family would like to thank Amedisys Hospice, Tugalo Home Health Care, Stephens
County Hospital, and Dr. Harry C. McDonald and staff for the loving care they provided.

Funeral services will be held at two o'clock Sunday, May 5, 2019 from the Chapel of Whitlock Mortuary with Dr. Tim Miller and the Rev. Tommy Childress officiating.

Burial will follow at Carnes Creek Baptist Church Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the United States Army.

The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers; Tyler Nicholson, Ryan Nicholson, Drew Benfield, Joel Baxter, Will Webb, and Jon Shearin.

The family will receive friends at the mortuary from 6pm – 8pm Saturday, May 4, 2019.
