Grady Michael Thurmond, born June 2, 1951 in Toccoa, Georgia, passed away on January 15, 2018 with his family by his side.

Grady served in the Navy as a Seaman on the USS Wainwright. Grady also served a total of 30 years in law enforcement with the Dekalb County Police Department and the Walton County Sherriff Department. Grady loved his country and was proud to serve it and the people.

Grady was preceded in death by his grandparents Hubert and Ella Mae Thurmond, Luther and Lelia Murray, his father William Grady Thurmond, and step-father Robert Doyle Smith of Toccoa, Georgia.

Grady is survived by his wife, the love of his life, Stephanie Bolton Thurmond; son and best friend Wesley Thurmond (Glennis) of Winterville, Georgia; daughter Brandy Thurmond of Monroe, Georgia; step-sons Buck Moore (Melissa), Chas Moore (Liz), Britt Moore (Jill) all of Grayson, Georgia; mother Mary Thurmond Smith of Toccoa, Georgia; brother Jerry Thurmond (Linda) of Hoschton, Georgia; 13 wonderful grandchildren, two nephews Scott Thurmond (Candi) of Bethlehem, Georgia, Greg Thurmond (Amiee) of Monroe, Georgia; and their children; and his dog Hoss.

Grady was loved and had many great people in his life. Grady enjoyed time with his friends, however, Grady requested to have a private memorial service with his family at Zebulon Baptist Church Cemetery in Toccoa, Georgia
