Mr. Everage Terrell Payne

Mr. Everage Terrell Payne, age 93, of Toccoa, passed away Sunday, June 11, 2017 at his home.

Born November 7, 1923 in Toccoa, he was a son of the late Andrew Jackson and Maude Holcomb Payne.

Mr. Payne served in WWII on the Tinian Islands in the South Pacific and also served in Saipan. While in the South Pacific he saw planes taking off with Atomic Bombs and fought in several battles. He was a foster father to over 200 children from Florida, North Carolina, and Georgia. Mr. Payne and his wife loved all of the children they fostered. He was member of Currahee Baptist Church.

Family members include sons and a daughter-in-law, Bob Payne and Doug and Janis Payne; a daughter, Judy Smith; grandchildren, John Payne, Connie Webb, Wanda Payne, and Dawn Bobbitt; sisters, Polly McMinn and Gwenell Howell; eleven great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mamie Lucille Laws Payne; a brother, Coy Payne; and sisters Ruby Keller and Catherine Payne.

Funeral Services will be held at two o'clock Wednesday, June 14, 2017 from the Chapel of Whitlock Mortuary with the Rev. Jerrell Beatty officiating.

Burial will follow at Tates Creek Baptist Church Cemetery with Military honors provided by the VFW Post 4346 and the Georgia Army National Guard.

The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers, John Payne, Nikalas Payne, Keith Bobbitt, Charles Hicks, Larry Hicks, and Jimmy Hicks.

The family will receive friends at the mortuary from 2pm – 4pm and 6pm – 8pm Tuesday.
